Josh Greenfield is Primera’s resident energy efficiency expert. He is a well-credentialed mechanical engineer committed to helping our clients and building owners conserve natural resources in a financially responsible way. “At the current state of building technology, it’s impossible to not consume natural resources while living the way of life we are accustomed to,” he explains. “But as long as we are proactive in how we consume these resources and plan for the future, energy efficiency and sustainability will triumph, and I’m grateful to play my part towards the goal.”
His expertise is the result of extensive energy consulting, energy modeling, energy grant acquisition and sustainable design experience with projects in both the private and public sector. Mr. Greenfield specializes in Energy Model creation following ASHRAE 90.1 Guidelines as well as Integrated Design Phase Energy Modeling to aide in the selection of architectural envelope properties and mechanical system efficiencies. Josh served on the International Code Council (ICC) Sustainable Building Technology Committee (SBTC) that developed the first International Green Construction Code (IgCC) that debuted in March 2012.
Josh studied mechanical engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, where he was fortunate enough to line up a diverse set of engineering internships. Developing preventative maintenance and operation plans for the University Power Plant, he quickly realized the importance in operations and maintenance, and the fact that a project does not, and cannot, just end at design completion. After more than a decade with Primera, Josh still credits that internship for teaching him the importance of retro-commissioning. “I just enjoy helping clients turn operational deficiencies into efficiently operating savings,” he explains.
When he’s not at the office, Josh diverts his attention to foreign and domestic travel with his wife, golfing, the Chicago Cubs, home improvement projects and eating at top-rated restaurants to feed his wanna-be-a-foodie ambitions.
