Mary O’Toole leads Primera’s team of business consulting experts with a passion for helping others learn and grow. “I have been fortunate to have some incredible mentors and leaders throughout my professional career, and I strive to do the same,” she explains. “The opportunity to share what I’ve learned and watch others advance in their own careers are the successes I find most rewarding.” Mary’s mentorship extends beyond her team as she is actively involved in industry leadership development organization Energetic Women. Her expertise is the result of nearly 35 years of utility and energy experience. She is knowledgeable in distribution utility work practices and is a skilled regulatory and environmental expert, specializing in utility industry management.
Mary studied civil engineering at Marquette University before beginning what would become a long, successful career at Commonwealth Edison. Hard work paid off as she advanced within the company, becoming the first female coal plant supervisor and eventually leading and managing multiple departments. In the process, she earned her MBA from Loyola University Chicago. After 25 years with the utility, she moved on to form her own company, an endeavor that challenged her to grow in new and exciting ways. Since joining Primera, she’s been leveraging all that she’s learned to provide a superior experience for our business consulting clients.
When she’s able to turn her focus from the consulting world, Mary enjoys an active lifestyle. In addition to traveling with her family, she likes to swim, spin and work out with friends. An avid college basketball fan, she’s loyal to her alma mater. “It may not be in my backyard anymore, but it’s still the community where I grew and thrived, and I’m committed to giving back as much as I can,” she explains. A true Marquette Warrior, Mary actively volunteers and recruits for the University and recently concluded her term as president of the alumni association.
