Since 2006, Building Design+Construction (BD+C) magazine has selected 40 emerging AEC leaders under the age of 40 for their “40 Under 40” awards program to honor them for their extraordinary achievements. Individuals are selected based on their career and education attainments, service to their professions and communities, and active participation in charitable work. Primera is proud and honored to have another one of our own join the ranks alongside other rising stars selected from throughout the country. Congratulations to our Lighting Studio Manager, Deborah Steimel-Clair for being selected to the class of 2020.
Deborah has been with Primera since 2004. In 16 years, she has gone from an entry level engineer to starting, and now managing, the firm’s first internal Lighting Studio. The studio offers custom-level lighting and lighting controls design that considers multiple approaches and technologies before moving forward. By providing clients with this level of service, like preparing lighting application renderings for discussion, the overall project benefits from an integrated design. With Deb’s leadership, Primera’s lighting studio has grown from a part-time role to a multiple-person studio with a 50% growth in the last year alone. Within the last five years, the studio has been recognized with three Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) awards and an American Architecture award.
Not only is Deborah an expert at her craft, but she also possesses a natural desire to share her knowledge. She has spoken at a considerable number of conferences and industry events, including national and international events, and has been a guest lecturer at the university-level as well. To date she has probably presented to over 500 industry professionals on a variety of lighting and lighting controls design topics. Internally, Deb has helped mentor other lighting designers and interns to reach their full potential and take charge of their career. She is also active with both professional and non-profit organizations and makes it a priority to help advance the industry or give back to her local community.
