Primera Volunteers Embrace 2025 National Rebuilding Day

On Saturday, April 26th, more than 20 Primera volunteers had the honor of gathering in Maywood, IL to participate in another National Rebuilding Day. Primera has sponsored a home and homeowner each year through Rebuilding Together for close to 15 years.

This year, we had the good fortune to support Michelle M., a long-time Maywood resident. Her 1890s home was in need of some repairs to align with Rebuilding Together’s mission of keeping homeowners safe, warm, and dry. Along with volunteers from the local unions—painters, carpenters, plumbers, and electricians—Primera employees painted the vast majority of her interior, completely transformed her backyard, replaced light fixtures, improved the safety and security of the interior and exterior, and repaired her fence and gates. As an added bonus, employees that couldn’t join in-person donated a variety of gifts to help improve her day-to-day activities in honor of her 55th birthday.

“The list of improvements our volunteers are able to make in a single day will never cease to amaze me,” explains Matt Dvorak, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and this year’s house co-captain with Jill Deichmann. “It was such a pleasure to get to know Michelle over the past few months and have the opportunity to improve her already beautiful home. I’m a long-time supporter of Rebuilding Together and this mission,” he adds.

The event was organized by Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago (RTMC), an affiliate of Rebuilding Together—the nation’s largest volunteer organization dedicated to preserving and revitalizing low-income houses and communities. Primera sponsored the home by providing both materials and labor for the much-needed repairs. Each year, during the celebratory National Rebuilding Day, over 3,500 volunteers across the city roll up their sleeves to make significant repairs in various low-income homes throughout the Chicago area.

Rebuilding Together Metro Chicago’s mission is to provide free home repairs to the less fortunate, disabled, elderly, and veterans. Since 1991, RTMC has repaired 1,900 homes and 285 community facilities, thanks to the tireless efforts of tens of thousands of volunteers. Their impact is sustainable and often acts as a catalyst for additional neighborhood improvements.
