Primera Joins ComEd at New Electric Vehicle Charging Station Unveiling

Earlier this week, Primera joined ComEd at their ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station. Members of the local community and project team gathered to recognize the importance of the station and celebrate this major step toward clean transportation and a healthier local environment.

The new EV charging station, located at The Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, is part of ComEd’s commitment to advancing equitable adoption of electric vehicles on Chicago’s South Side. Funded by a United States Department of Energy (DOE) grant, ComEd strategically placed various EV charging stations near multi-unit dwellings to increase accessibility for residents without at-home charging capabilities. The initiative aims to encourage electric vehicle usage in residential areas with high concentrations of greenhouse gas emissions and within communities that stand to benefit from the lower maintenance and fuel costs associated with owning an EV.

Primera’s distribution team, in collaboration with our partners at MZI Group, Inc., provided the electrical design services and construction coordination for the public-use station. The team additionally engineered and designed the first charging station in this ComEd program, also located in Bronzeville. “As EVs grow more popular throughout Illinois, proper access to charging stations is becoming more and more critical,” says Elizabeth Odegaard, Primera’s Vice President of Project Management. “We’re proud to have made a positive impact on our community and on the environment while supporting ComEd on this project.”
