Since 2006, Building Design+Construction (BD+C) magazine has selected 40 emerging AEC leaders under the age of 40 for their “40 Under 40” awards program to honor them for their extraordinary achievements. Individuals are selected based on their career and education attainments, service to their professions and communities, and active participation in charitable work. This year’s recipients will gather in November for BD+C’s AEC Emerging Leaders Meet-Up in Boston for leadership development, team building, and networking.
Primera is proud and honored to have one of our own join the ranks alongside other rising stars selected from throughout the country. Amanda Beck Larkin, PE, CET, CFPS, our Fire Protection Group Lead, has been with Primera since 2010 and is our in-house technical expert when it comes to fire protection and life safety. She is a registered Professional Engineer and a Certified Fire Protection Specialist who views her role as an opportunity to save lives. Certified in water based fire systems by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), she has vast ranging experience in the engineering, design and construction administration of fire protection and life safety systems for institutional, educational, healthcare, commercial, residential, and light industrial facilities.
While at Primera, Amanda has worked on several high-profile projects including the David M. Rubenstein Forum at the University of Chicago, the Field Museum, and the Welsh-Ryan Arena for Northwestern University, to name a few. Not only is Amanda an expert in mechanical and fire protection engineering, but she has also come to embody Primera’s other guiding principle of providing superb client service. Clients have come to appreciate Amanda’s attention for detail and diligence in sticking with project timelines. For example, because of her excellent relationship with the Field Museum, Primera has been asked to work on several additional projects at the facility.
Amanda’s leadership skills and outgoing nature also extend well beyond her workday. Amanda currently sits on the Executive Board of Directors for the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and is an active member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). She is also extremely active with several community organizations and makes it a priority to mentor and give back to the community. She has held leadership roles with the ACE Mentor Program of America, Rebuilding Together, and Canstruction, and is always one of the first to volunteer for almost any initiative.
All of us at Primera are proud of Amanda and would like to congratulate her and the rest of BD+C’s “40 Under 40” Class of 2017.
