On May 20th, Primera joined the City of Wheaton in celebrating the official completion of its Downtown Streetscape project – a signature project for our firm. Community members gathered around the new pavilion to celebrate with music and other activities. Hosted by the Downtown Wheaton Association, the family-friendly event included activities such as a stilt-walker, juggler, live DJ and face painting. The celebration event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new pavilion located on Main Street and Liberty Drive. The new pavilion will house Bensidoun’s French Market every Saturday morning from April through November.
The Downtown Streetscape renovation is among the largest projects in Wheaton history. This $35 million investment has bettered the City’s infrastructure and amenities, making Downtown Wheaton an enjoyable hub for community members. Primera was proud to play a large role in helping this project come to fruition. We provided full-service engineering services including roadway design, traffic management planning and maintenance of traffic (MOT), parking lot and building drainage, underground detention design, lighting analysis and design, lighting selection, selection of watermain and sewer replacements, and solar feasibility. Other tasks also included data collection, utility coordination, complete streets analysis, field inspection; ADA/PROWAG study and design; sidewalk geometric study; intersection alignment and geometry evaluation and design; parking lot and building drainage; underground detention design; and construction administration.
“As a resident of Wheaton, I’m especially proud of our team’s success on this complex, multi-phased revitalization project,” explains Erin Inman, Primera’s President & CEO. “We were able to leverage talent from our Buildings, Transportation, and Utilities divisions to help the City create something that enriches our community.”
Primera’s efforts on this revitalization project were recognized with both an Honor Award and a Judge’s Choice Award through the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) Engineering Excellence Awards program. The ACEC-IL Engineering Excellence Awards acknowledge the year’s most outstanding engineering efforts and achievements in the state. Projects entered into the competition were evaluated by a panel of diverse judges, consisting of industry professionals, educators, media personnel and more. You can read more about the award here.
Primera is proud to have been a part of this project and is excited for the community to enjoy the City of Wheaton’s new downtown improvements.
