Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has served as the home to the Tevatron, the world’s most powerful atomic particle accelerator, for more than 20 years. Fermilab uses technology to drive subatomic particles to nearly the speed of light and crash them into one another, yielding clues about the nature of matter and how it can be destroyed to create energy.
Primera provided design and construction phase services of two new buildings, Cryo Module Test Facility (CMTF) building and Compressor building, and the surrounding site development covering eight acres. The CMTF building consisted of 17,800 square feet with a connecting link to the Compressor building consisting of 4,200 square feet of new construction.
Professional services included developing final contract documents for construction of the two buildings. Key to the success of this project is the energy analysis and modeling that Primera prepared for the building to conform to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Guiding Principles for High Performance and Sustainable Buildings. Primera also provided architectural and engineering services to validate conformance of the New Muon Lab Addition (NMLA) to the DOE Guiding principles with the recommendations that would be required for the existing design to help conform to the DOE Guiding Principles.
