Primera Earns ACEC‑IL Judges Choice Award for Sheffield Senior and Residences Project

Primera is proud to share that our Chicago Housing Authority project, Sheffield Senior and Residences, has been recognized with the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC‑IL) Judges Choice Award, along with a Special Achievement Award, for 2026.

The ACEC‑IL Engineering Excellence Awards honor the most outstanding engineering efforts of the year. Each entry is evaluated by a diverse panel of industry professionals, educators, media representatives, and others. Projects may receive recognition at the Merit, Special Achievement, or Honors level, but only one project in each category earns the prestigious Judges Choice distinction. We’re honored to receive the top award in the Building/Technology Systems category for our work on this meaningful renovation.

Located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, the Sheffield Senior and Residences development is a multi-phased, mixed‑income housing community owned by the Chicago Housing Authority. The project included renovations to existing senior apartments, newly connected spaces between buildings, and the addition of modern amenities and accessible units to enhance residents’ comfort and quality of life. Primera provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting controls, and fire protection engineering design services to support the transformation. Each year, the ACEC‑IL Engineering Excellence Awards program highlights engineering achievements that advance Illinois communities and elevate the practice of consulting engineering. As the state’s only association dedicated solely to consulting engineering firms, ACEC‑IL evaluates submissions based on engineering excellence, how well client needs are met, and the project’s value to public welfare and private practice.
