Primera is pleased to announce that two of our projects recently received the Platinum Award in the 2018 Building Design+Construction (BD+C) Building Team Awards. Our newly built McCormick Square Marriott Marquis project and our Wintrust Arena project were both honored with the top award in the annual awards program that recognizes projects that best exemplify the collaboration between owner, architect, engineer, and contractor to produce buildings that exhibit architectural and construction excellence.
Primera joined Goettsch Partners as the Architect of Record with Clark Construction serving as General Contractor in the early design phase to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection services. The Marriott Marquis is a 40-story, 1.2 million-square-foot hotel with 1,205 guest rooms and suites. Primera also provided energy modeling and LEED fundamental and enhanced commissioning services. As Commissioning Authority, Primera utilized CxAlloy (cloud-based commissioning software) to manage design/equipment reviews, pre-functional checklist verifications, functional performance test execution and issue resolution. The project is pursuing LEED Silver certification through the New Construction v3.0 rating system.
The new Wintrust Arena is a 300,000-square-foot facility designed for concerts, sporting events and other major special events that features 10,000 seats, 22 suites and 479 club seats. Primera was hired early in the design phase to provide LEED fundamental and enhanced commissioning services. Primera collaborated with the project team through overlapping design and construction phases and continued through system acceptance and warranty. The Arena is also now the new home court for the DePaul University basketball teams, as well as the city’s WNBA team – the Chicago Sky.
Each year judges at BD+C base their award selections on the design, engineering and construction quality and excellence of newly-built projects. Projects are also judged on how the building team (architects, engineers, contractors, CMs, subcontractors, building owners, developers, government entities, etc.) collaborates to overcome obstacles to make the project succeed.
Building Design+Construction Magazine is owned by Scranton Gillette Communications, a fourth-generation family-owned business-to-business communications company.
