On Monday, August 23rd, the City of Chicago and the Department of Planning and Development (DPD) held a news conference and announcement ceremony to highlight the second round of sites as part of Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot’s INVEST South/West neighborhood revitalization strategy. Launched in 2019, INVEST South/West is a community improvement initiative aimed at revitalizing 10 historic neighborhoods in Chicago’s South and West sides. According to the City, the program “supports infrastructure development, improved programming for residents and businesses, and policies that impact each of the community areas surrounding these corridors to create lasting impact.”
Primera had the honor of being part of the project team providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services for the first round of projects located in the Austin neighborhood. Even more exciting is that we were also selected to continue supporting these efforts by working on the next development site within the newly announced Bronzeville community. This next phase of projects will bring housing, retail, and a rooftop garden to Bronzeville’s 47th Street, called The Legacy District. Primera will once again provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection services for the $19.2M project that will turn .6 acres of vacant land into a six-story building. The project is being led on the design side by Volume One Design Studio, Civics Projects Architecture and Landon Bone Baker Architects, and developed by KMW Communities and LG Development Group. Not only will there be a great mix of housing and retail for this new facility, but this exciting development project will also house the DePaul/YWCA Women’s Entrepreneurship Center. The project is expected to kick off next month.
