Primera is excited to announce that two of our projects have received the American Council for Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-IL) Engineering Excellence Awards for 2023! Our Wheaton Downtown Streetscape project was awarded the Honor Award for exceptional engineering, and our James Addington Plaza project in Westmont, IL received the Merit Award. ACEC-IL will be presenting a total of 31 awards at their annual Engineering Excellence Awards Gala, taking place in February.

Primera is proud to have played a key role in both projects providing engineering design services. Our Downtown Streetscape Improvement project, located in the City of Wheaton, IL, was a multi-year, multi-phased design and construction effort to upgrade the outdated streetscape of Wheaton’s downtown area to a more welcoming and modern look. Primera served as the primary engineering designer and project construction manager, and provided roadway design, traffic management and planning, parking lot and building drainage, lighting analysis, design and selection, sewer replacements, underground detection design and more. Throughout our involvement, Primera was also responsible for coordination amongst all partners including the City of Wheaton, DuPage County, Metra and the Union Pacific Railroad.

The Village of Westmont’s project utilized Primera’s professional civil engineering services for the design of the James Addington Plaza. The project entailed finalizing a preferred design developed in an earlier phase as well as preparing construction plans, specifications and estimates to use during the construction phase. The plaza was a visionary project proposed by the Mayor of Westmont to honor a long-time Village trustee, board member, and citizen, James Addington. The final design offers an open space where families can relax and enjoy the downtown sites.

Every year, the ACEC-IL Engineering Excellence Awards competition does an excellent job of recognizing projects of engineering achievement by Illinois consulting engineering firms. ACEC-IL is the only statewide association dedicated solely to the interests of consulting engineering firms. Entries are judged on engineering excellence, the degree to which the client’s needs are met, and the benefits to the public welfare and private practice of engineering.
