Primera delivered comprehensive engineering and energy modeling services for the new Illinois State Police (ISP) campus, which includes a 45,541-square-foot forensics building and a 29,000-square-foot District 5 headquarters. The project team is notably diverse, with 100% of firms being woman-, minority-, or veteran-owned, and women leading approximately 75% of key design roles.
The forensics lab will feature advanced laboratories, offices, training spaces, vehicle and evidence storage, and a modular shooting range. Each lab will have customized designs and specialized equipment tailored to the specific analyses conducted. Lighting design incorporates daylight sensors, task lighting, and coordination with architects to minimize glare. Bio-vestibules, snorkel and canopy exhaust hoods, and specialized plumbing systems (acid waste, compressed air, pure water, and specialty gases) were included. Fire protection includes dry and preaction sprinkler systems and clean agent systems, coordinated with architects, lab planners, and IT designers. Emergency power systems ensure continuous operation of sensitive lab equipment and 24/7 functionality at the headquarters.
The District 5 headquarters will operate 24/7, and features offices, interview and detention spaces, garage bays for vehicle inspections and repairs, evidence collection and storage, and a fitness center. Energy modeling services support LEED certification and evaluated architectural features to optimize design options.
