Who You Are
- You studied structural/civil engineering and have 5 to 8 years of experience designing transportation structures and delivering projects for public-sector clients. You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis and possess a Professional Engineer (PE) license. A Structural Engineer (SE) license is preferred.
- You’re looking to build your experience working on bridge and roadway structure projects. You have experience developing bridge, retaining wall, and culvert designs and are knowledgeable of applicable transportation design standards (AASHTO, IDOT, Illinois Tollway, and other state DOT). You’re comfortable preparing structural calculations, design plans, specifications, and supporting documentation for transportation infrastructure projects.
- You have experience contributing to IDOT and Local Agency Federal Aid Phase I and Phase II projects and understand project delivery requirements for municipal, county, and state clients. Experience performing structural inspections, evaluations, plan reviews, and preparing technical reports is highly valued.
- You are a detail-oriented problem solver with strong analytical and organizational skills. You can effectively manage multiple assignments while maintaining a high level of quality and accuracy.
- You’re proficient with industry-standard software, including Microsoft Office, Microstation and/or AutoCAD.
- You’re a people person with the ability to interface and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders. You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
What You’ll Do
- You’ll support the design process for bridge, culverts, and retaining walls by applying sound structural engineering principles and industry best practices. You will also prepare and review structural calculations, plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and supporting project documentation.
- You will develop complete design plans in accordance with IDOT, Illinois Tollway, other state DOT, and AASHTO standards, while ensuring compliance with project requirements and quality expectations.
- You’ll handle project coordination and contribute to Phase I and Phase II transportation projects for a variety of public-sector clients and provide general structural engineering services, including inspections, evaluation reports, and plan reviews for municipal, county, and state agencies.
- You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, clients, and other stakeholders while following established Bridge Practice design standards, production procedures, and quality-control processes.
- You will continue to learn and grow your technical expertise through challenging and rewarding projects, working alongside experienced structural engineers while expanding your professional responsibilities and technical leadership capabilities.

Starting salary is between $67,000 – $100,000 based on skills and qualifications, with the high end of the range limited to applicants based on relevant years of experience.
