AECOM-DBS JV is seeking a CAD Technician to support the Chicago Department of Water’s multibillion Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This position will represent DWM with oversight to various service providers in completing a range of CIP projects that include planning, designing, and construction oversight.

The first 90 days of employment will be based on-site at the Jardine Water Purification Plant, 1000 E Ohio St, Chicago, IL 60611. This initial on-site period is designed to support onboarding, relationship building, and a strong understanding of the project and team.

Following the first 90 days, the position will offer work-from-home flexibility.

Who You Are

  • You know CAD. You have at least one year of experience or technical training using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD. Experience with both platforms is a plus, as the programs are similar. A high school diploma is required; additional technical education is preferred.
  • You’re comfortable with MicroStation. You’ll work primarily in MicroStation within Primera, so familiarity with the platform will help you hit the ground running.
  • You’re a people person. You have the ability to interface and collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, project managers, and other team members. Strong organization and communication skills will contribute to your success.
  • You’re a detail-loving drafter. You’re meticulous and have a knack for quality. You take pride in producing accurate, organized drawings.
  • You’re proficient with business and engineering applications. Microsoft Office and proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD are preferred.

What You’ll Do

  • You’ll flex your drafting muscle. You’ll spend your day working in CAD, preparing and updating drawings based on engineering and/or field markups for designers and engineers.
  • You’ll support water utility projects. You’ll work primarily on water main and water service line projects, preparing drawings and documentation to support the design and delivery of critical water infrastructure.
  • You’ll work in MicroStation every day. This is a hands-on CAD production role where you’ll spend the majority of your time drafting, updating, and coordinating drawings in MicroStation within Primera.
  • You’ll support a major infrastructure program. You’ll support the Chicago Department of Water Management’s multi-billion-dollar Capital Improvement Program through AECOM-DBS JV, contributing to projects that improve Chicago’s water infrastructure.
  • You’ll coordinate CAD for projects. You’ll be responsible for initial drawing setup, maintaining project files, and assisting with file management including scanning, plotting, creating and updating project drawing lists, and general drawing management.
  • You’ll prepare drawings for permits. You’ll comply with requirements established by local villages, road and rail authorities, and other applicable agencies.
  • You’ll ensure adherence to company and industry standards. You’ll apply our standards, guidelines, specifications, practices, and procedures when preparing design drawings and archive CAD files in accordance with company standards.
  • You’ll connect with people. You’ll regularly communicate and coordinate project activities with internal designers, engineers, and project managers.
  • You’ll be part of a growing team. The group currently has one CAD Technician and is positioned for continued growth as our workload expands. Current and upcoming projects include significant service-line work, with approximately 15,000 lead service lines currently in scope and an additional 20,000 anticipated by 2028, creating a strong need for additional CAD support.

Starting salary is between $50,000 – $75,000 based on skills and qualifications, with the high end of the range limited to applicants based on relevant years of experience.
