To close out our week-long celebration of National Engineers Week, the Primera Foundation partnered with non-profit organization Female Strong to host our inaugural all-girls STEM Camp. The day-long camp was designed to introduce young girls to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) through hands-on experiments and activities, and by talking to our engineering and architecture experts. The event seamlessly combined creative thinking with critical analysis through fun activities. Our campers constructed water filtration systems, assembled friction climbers, crafted vision boards, and devised innovative solutions to address the climate crisis. In addition to learning about STEM subjects, the girls were also encouraged to develop self-confidence, practice collaboration, and to always stay curious.
“Witnessing the girls open up and come out of their shells throughout the day was so inspiring,” said Angie DeAlba, Primera Foundation Events Co-Chair. “It was the perfect way to end our National Engineers Week celebration and we hope that our camp sparked an interest in engineering and other STEM-focused fields,” she continues. The Primera Foundation would like to thank Female Strong for their partnership in helping us bring this opportunity to local 8-12 year old girls. If you’re interested in registering your daughter, niece, friend, etc. for a future camp with Female Strong, please sign up for their waitlist here.
