In 2019 American Airlines resurfaced their employee parking lots at O’Hare International Airport. The parking lots, located near American Airlines Hangars 1 and 2, are used by a majority of their approximately 9,500 airport employees. To accommodate staff during the reconstruction and improvements of these lots, American Airlines enlisted the help of Primera to develop a 778-vehicle interim parking lot on an existing apron. The interim lot allowed American Airlines to provide full parking capacity for their employees while minimizing major transportation delays to and from the lot.
Primera’s design included the layout of the interim parking lot and bus stop locations as well as the analysis of bus circulation throughout the lot. Primera also developed traffic signage and routes to transport employees and shuttle buses from the nearby intersection of Hangar Road and Mount Prospect Road to the interim parking lot.
