Primera was an integral part of the consultant team selected by the Chicago Park District to design the major reconstruction of the North Grant Park / Maggie Daley Park, including the complete renovation of the fieldhouse, located downtown near Chicago’s beautiful lakefront and major tourism center spots of Millennium and Grant Parks. The park portion of the project consisted of reinventing the park space with changes in topography, pathways and planting. The project also introduced new activity centers for children’s exploration, a play area, a rock climbing wall, and an ice skating/track ribbon. The fieldhouse portion consisted of completely reprogramming the facility to have new community rooms, restrooms and locker facilities, office and administration spaces, and ice skating rental commercial space.
Primera provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering for the park and architectural services for park service buildings. The site scope for Primera included new lighting, drinking fountains, and garage ventilation intake reconfiguration. The buildings include a new utility building housing the ice ribbon mechanical equipment and renovations to the existing field house mechanical room. Primera also provided code consulting services including identification and education of applicable codes and instruction on local permitting and authority submissions. The fieldhouse work (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting design engineering) was concurrent with the ongoing site project, and systems for both the site and the building were closely tied together. Precise coordination between projects was required.
