Some of the projects he worked on included creating a calculation package in Mathcad, creating a 3D model of a manhole cover and a steel cover over a cable trough, revising drawings in AutoCAD, and revising submittals on multiple projects. Sean described every project as a marathon, with multiple people working toward the same goal.

While each intern worked on different projects, a few common themes came through clearly. They learned how to communicate with project teams and field staff, document their work carefully, manage time and deadlines, ask better questions, and trust themselves a little more as they gained experience. They also saw how collaborative engineering and consulting work really is, with every drawing, calculation, inspection, proposal package, model, and markup contributing to something bigger.

Of course, the summer was not all work. Interns also had plenty of chances to connect with each other outside of their day-to-day assignments, from casual lunches and team outings to fun experiences like a Cubs game to close out their internship. For Primera, the intern program is a chance to welcome future professionals into real project environments, surround them with mentorship and support, and give them space to learn, contribute, build confidence, and have some fun along the way.
