Primera is thrilled to announce that we have been honored with the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award, in the under $10M category, by the Illinois Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE-IL) for our work on the Lewis University Airport (LOT) Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Site Development project. Primera is proud of its role on the project team, providing aviation planning, civil design, construction administration and program coordination.
Since its establishment in 1960, ASCE-IL has celebrated exceptional civil engineering projects through the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award. This accolade highlights projects that demonstrate superior civil engineering expertise and significantly contribute to the advancement of the field and society.
The LOT ATCT Site Development project addressed the critical need for a new control tower and comprehensive site development. This included constructing an access road to the tower, an adjacent parking lot, and the necessary utilities. Primera also incorporated several sustainable site improvements into the project’s design to protect the area and to facilitate future enhancements. As one of the busiest large corporate reliever airports and flight training bases in the Chicago area, this development was crucial for enhancing operational efficiency and ensuring the highest safety standards. With the completion of this project, the airport can now manage high activity levels and a diverse mix of aircraft in a controlled and safe manner, and capable of handling up to 30% more takeoffs and landings per year. Primera would like to congratulate the Joliet Regional Port District, and the rest of the project team, on this remarkable achievement. All ASCE-IL Award winners will be recognized at the 2024 ASCE–IL Section Awards Dinner, taking place on October 10, 2024.
The air traffic control tower was designed under separate contract by Michael Baker International and AJT Engineering.
