Primera provided Phase II design engineering services to develop construction contract documents, specifications, and estimates for the rehabilitation of two bridges (SN 049-0050 and SN 049-0051) that carry Illinois 120 over U.S. 41, Union Pacific Railroad, and Old Skokie Road in Lake County, Illinois. The design work included removing and replacing the bridge decks, as well as repairing the abutments and piers.

The existing steel structures required cleaning and repainting. Both bridges needed Type F parapets and the conversion of all spans from non-composite to composite design. Additionally, the project involved removing existing closure pours at the top of the backwalls at each abutment to allow for expansion joint replacement with preformed joint strip seals. The project also included replacing existing abutment backwalls, installing a drainage system behind the abutments, and replacing existing roller bearings with elastomeric bearings at both abutments.

Additional improvements included removing existing traffic barrier terminals, upgrading all signage within the project limits to current state standards, and repairing and replacing culverts to improve drainage along IL 120 and at the US 41 interchange.
