What You’ll Do

  • Lead and perform physical design of high-voltage substations (69 kV – 500 kV) in transmission and distribution networks.
  • Create layout drawingsgeneral arrangementsgrounding plansconduit/cable schedulesand equipment drawings using AutoCADMicroStation, or Bentley Substation.
  • Partner with protection & control (P&C) and civil/structural engineering teams to ensure high-quality, constructible designs, and schedule adherence.
  • Conduct grounding analysisbus designequipment configuration, and quality checks to support reliable and safe operation.
  • Review design packages in compliance with NESC, IEEEand client standards.
  • Mentor and inspire early-career engineers, fostering technical growth and team collaboration — you’ll be a technical leader and a role model.
  • Support proposal efforts and provide input on project scoping, schedule, and cost estimating for new projects.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and an active PE license.
  • 8+ years of experience in substation physical design for utilities, EPCs, or consulting firms.
  • Proficiency in AutoCADMicroStation, and familiarity with Bentley Substation or other substation design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment layoutsgrounding systemsand bus design.
  • Working understanding of relay coordinationcontrol schemesSCADA, and substation automation principles.
  • Excellent communicationproject leadershipand mentoring skills with a strong eye for detail and quality.
  • A genuine passion for innovation and helping shape the next generation of substation engineers.

Estimated salary range: $115,000 – $180,000, based on experience, qualifications, and PE status.
