Primera was proud to recently attend the groundbreaking ceremony of Concourse D at O’Hare International Airport (ORD), a transformative $1.3 billion investment and the first major step in ORD Next, the airport’s impressive terminal expansion program. Members of our transportation aviation team joined other project team members, aviation experts and local leaders, including Brandon Johnson, Mayor of the City of Chicago, at the project site to commemorate the start of this monumental program. ORD Next, a development of the O’Hare 21 capital program, includes the construction of two new concourses and a global terminal, significantly enhancing the airport’s efficiency and passenger experience. The progressive program allows ORD to uphold Chicago’s legacy as one of the country’s most notable aviation hubs.
“Being part of a project like this is truly meaningful,” says John Antonoglu, PE, Primera Transportation Aviation Engineer. “The groundbreaking isn’t just a milestone, it’s a major step toward improving the experience for passengers and strengthening Chicago’s role as a global aviation hub,” he continues.
Primera is providing civil engineering services for the construction of the new Concourse D and upcoming terminal projects in the ORD Next program. As part of the HNTB team, our team serves as the Lead Airfield Engineer, overseeing the design of all airfield pavements, grading, realignment of multiple taxiways and taxilanes, expansion of the existing stormwater detention basin, design of service roads, tunnel and apron lighting, and site layouts for the proposed cooling plant. Additionally, Primera led the team’s effort for the implementation of the Chicago Department of Aviation’s Sustainable Airport Manual requirements, of which we also helped author.
