31st Street Bridge over Metra and Illinois Central

Chicago, Illinois

Primera provided Phase III construction inspection services for the demolition and reconstruction of the 31st Street Bridge over the Metra Electric and Illinois Central railroads in Chicago. This federally funded project involved the demolition of the existing bridge’s substructure, superstructure, wingwalls, and approach pavement. It also included construction of new bridge piers, abutments, superstructure, and deck with balustrade railings. Additionally, the project encompassed the removal and reconstruction of pedestrian paths, bike trails, sidewalks, concrete curbs and gutters, as well as the installation of new street lighting, pavement markings, signage, landscaping, and storm sewers.

The work was completed in stages to ensure continuous vehicular and pedestrian access to the 31st Street Beach and Harbor, Burnham Park, and Lake Shore Drive.
