In June 2022, Primera celebrated with the Village of Westmont at their grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony of the James Addington Plaza. The Village dedicated this newly modernized train plaza in honor of the late and long-time public servant James Addington, whose service to the community spanned five decades, including as the mayor of Westmont from 1993 to 1997.
Primera provided civil and lighting design services for this project and wanted to deliver a final product that would honor James Addington’s work and the Village’s vision. A feature of the plaza are the red permeable pavers installed in a section adjacent to the new plaza arch. Westmont was once the prime exporter of brick pavers, and the Primera team installed the same type of red pavers as a nod to the Village’s history and point of pride. The pavers provide stormwater runoff reduction, achieving best stormwater management practices.
Modern features such as seat walls integrated with planters installed throughout the plaza allows the Village to host events throughout the year. Other features included new pedestrian lighting, and catenary lights, outlets, and tree spotlights; masonry walls and plaza signage (precast and metal) around the perimeter of the site; and bioswale within the planter along Cass Avenue for improved water quality.
