American Airlines is spending $550 million on improvements at its maintenance base at Tulsa International Airport. The base, which is consists of 330 acres, is the largest commercial aircraft maintenance facility in the world and serves as an essential part of operations for American Airlines’ fleet of nearly 1,000 aircraft.
Primera holds one of three key roles on the team that is planning and designing the reconstruction of underground wet utilities at the maintenance base. Primera’s scope of work includes the evaluation of approximately 37,000 linear feet of existing storm sewer networks and dry-bottom detention facilities and the redesign of storm sewer in high-risk flooding areas. Primera reviewed and analyzed video televising and performed hydraulic modeling of 35 sub-systems to determine capacity using Civil3D Hydraflow and is designing the storm sewers to support a 100-year rainfall event.
The investment for these improvements is the largest ever made at a maintenance location in America. The improvements are expected to take seven years to complete and will involve upgrades to nearly every building at the facility.
