Primera led the distribution, civil, and electrical engineering design for a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood. The Level 2 station is the first public-use EV charging station for the largest electric utility company in Illinois as well as the first charger located on a public right-of-way street in the city of Chicago. Primera’s scope of work included site inspection and data collection; site, utility, and traffic plans; and permitting. Primera also provided construction management services for the installation of electric panel and EV charging station including approximately 90 feet of conduits, meter enclosure, distribution panel foundations, bollards, signage, walkway, street painting, and apron restoration.
During the project, Primera worked closely with project staff at the utility company and coordinated with the City of Chicago Office of Underground Coordination and Department of Transportation. Primera also worked through the City of Chicago’s extensive Grant of Privilege process for permanent structure installations in the right-of-way. The success of this unprecedented project required substantial coordination with various City of Chicago Departments and participation at Town Hall meetings.
