Kambiz Karimi is a seasoned utility engineer with more than 15 years of experience spanning electric distribution, transmission, substations, and program management. As one of Primera’s Distribution group leads, he oversees multidisciplinary design teams across the Midwest, guiding projects from proposal development through closeout while ensuring technical excellence, schedule performance, and budget alignment. Known for his collaborative and people-centered leadership style, Kambiz believes that strong outcomes begin with strong teams. As he shares, “Great engineering comes from strong teams, clear processes, and people who take pride in their work.” This philosophy informs his management style, emphasizing communication, accountability, and mentorship to help engineers grow while consistently delivering high-quality results for utility clients.
Kambiz holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Kabul University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University. He began his career in electrical design for large infrastructure and government facilities, where he built a strong foundation in power systems, safety standards, and multidisciplinary coordination. He later transitioned into utility-focused engineering, spending nearly a decade leading the design and execution of high-voltage substations, transmission lines, and large-scale distribution programs. Throughout his career, Kambiz has connected technical engineering with project controls, financial performance, and team development, leading him naturally into department and program leadership roles within the utilities sector.
When he’s not working, Kambiz enjoys spending time with his wife, Samira, and their children, Rayan and Nora. Traveling is a major passion for their family, and together they have explored 24 countries across six continents, embracing new cultures and cuisines. He maintains an active lifestyle as an avid soccer player and passionate skier. Kambiz is deeply committed to giving back and participates in several mentorship initiatives like career fairs, and training programs that introduce students and young professionals to careers in engineering and utilities. He stays engaged with his community by volunteering with local after-hours math programs for students.
