As part of the Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act, a new training facility was constructed in Rockford, Illinois. To enhance the training to be provided, a small scale substation was required to provide life-like conditions for maintenance classes. To do this while keeping down cost, the new training substation was built using decommissioned equipment recently pulled from existing substations. The total new substation included a live line up and a dead line up. The live line up consisted of an A-frame dead-end structure, a 138kV Oil Filled Circuit breaker, a 138kV manual tie switch converted to be motor operated, a bus support and a 25MVA transformer. The dead line up consisted of an A-frame dead-end structure, 138kV Mark III circuit switcher, bus support and a 25MVA transformer.
Primera developed electrical, civil and structural drawings for the substation, including the foundation design, oil retention, steel modification, grading plan, electrical layout, schematic and wiring diagrams and bill of materials.
