Ruby Street Bridge Over Des Plaines River

Primera is the Engineer of Record providing project management; structural, roadway, and traffic engineering design; and construction support services for the repair of the Ruby Street Bridge over Des Plaines River. The Ruby Street bridge is a 66-foot-wide, double leaf, multi-trunnion bascule bridge located on IL 53 in Joliet. Constructed in 1935 and rehabilitated in 1972, the structure has one fixed span unit and a 257-foot-long movable span. Recent inspections revealed deficiencies in the bridge including section loss in various floor beams, impact or localized distortion in various truss members, and impact damage to the east approach span.

Primera’s overall scope of work includes structural analysis, preparing structural design plans and calculations to repair deteriorated members and impact damage, roadway design plans, maintenance of traffic and detour plans, pavement marking plans, request for information (RFI) and shop drawing reviews, and preparing construction staging and traffic control measures. Structural scope includes compiling a table of deficiencies, detailing of the new roadway grating, designing repairs to the floor beams, connection plates, girders, and truss members and bridge painting detailing.
