The O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP) reconfigured O’Hare International Airport’s intersecting runways into a more modern, parallel layout and meet the region’s needs well into the future. The $8 Billion program dramatically improved the efficiency of the airport, while significantly reducing delays.
Primera’s role as part of the Master Civil Engineer team, BPC Airport Partners, was to perform preliminary design and prepare detailed transfer package materials to define the scope, schedule, and budgets for the final design of the runways and taxiways, public and private roadways, railroads, a centralized de-icing facility, electrical vaults, drainage structures, oil-water separators, and other facilities. The preliminary design also included planning of utilities and of numerous airfield structures such as airfield lighting vaults, cargo facilities, and security facilities to support the new airfield and its infrastructure.
Primera implemented its work to coordinate with the phasing of construction over a 10-year period in order to accommodate the needs of a continuously-operating airport while meeting security, budget, and environmental goals set forth by the OMP, Federal Aviation Administration, Department of Aviation, and other regulatory agencies having jurisdiction. Primera also took the lead in providing a Sustainable Airport Manual to be utilized for all new projects in the OMP, including green roof, stormwater management, and other concepts designed to enhance the O’Hare Modernization Program.
