Primera provided Stage I, II and III engineering services for the removal of the Inland Steel Overpass bridge over Aldis Avenue, and the construction of a roundabout intersection in East Chicago, Indiana. The existing three-span concrete bridge carried six lanes of traffic.
Primera performed the following services: preparation of a Bridge Condition & Assessment report, preparation of a geometric study which included an analysis of the roadway and bridge vertical and horizontal alignments, development and analyzation of alternative roundabout designs, development of a Project Development Report, development of a set of contract documents and lastly, preparation of the final contract documents.
Roadway improvements included full bridge removal with earth backfill underneath, approximately 2,600-feet of roadway reconstruction northeast of the bridge, and construction of a new roundabout intersection. The roadway drainage system within the area of roadway reconstruction was replaced with a new system tying into an existing structure within the limits of the project.
