Primera provided Phase III engineering services for the improvement of the I-57 Interchange at Manhattan-Monee Road. The project included the reconstruction of the interchange which involved the removal and replacement of the bridge structure carrying Manhattan-Monee Road over I-57.
The project utilized staged construction with one lane of traffic in each direction along Manhattan-Monee Road. Lane/shoulder closures along I-57 mainline were also required. The existing lighting system along Manhattan-Monee Road was upgraded within the project limits and the existing four high mast light towers within the I-57 median were removed and replaced with standard light poles along the edge of shoulders. A new drainage system was constructed along Manhattan-Monee Road.
Primera’s staff performed on-site inspection, layout of design changes, provided construction layout when not provided for in the contract plans, provided geotechnical and concrete inspection and testing, prepared records, maintained documentation and prepared as-builts in accordance with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) specifications. Primera’s staff was able to help IDOT resolve the challenges stated above by being proactive in the preparation to ensure that the Contractor built this project according to the construction documents and other stakeholders’ requirements.
