The Oak Brook Fiber Ring project provided upgrades to ComEd’s protective relaying communication system supporting all 138kV & 345kV ComEd Transmission lines from an existing legacy communication infrastructure to a new modern fiber optic ComEd-owned fiber communication system. These upgrades optimized the protective relaying system over a fiber optic communication network and helped to increase reliability.
Primera provided engineering, design, and CAD resources to design the outside plant route, inside plant route, and equipment layout of the new fiber optic ring, which consisted of 23 miles of outside plant fiber, three substation sites, and one commercial office building site. Primera completed all the SEL-ICON SONET multiplexor placement design, the associated schematic and wiring diagrams, and all the new SCADA connections. Over 250 drawings were impacted by this scope of work.
