Primera was selected to provide civil engineering services for the design and construction of a new Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL) Center for students at the City Colleges of Chicago’s Olive-Harvey College. The proposed TDL building will be approximately 110,000 NSF of interior space and will include a high-tech warehouse, laboratories, workshops, classrooms, simulation facilities, service vehicle and equipment areas, and faculty offices. Exterior program space within the seven-acre project site includes a 2.5-acre Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training facility, truck loading docks, and site roadways designed for movements of large vehicles. Substantial green space with native landscaping was incorporated into the site wherever feasible.
Primera is providing site civil design and permitting services. Our civil plan incorporates several elements of sustainable design. Several landscaped bioinfiltration areas were designed to benefit both quantity and quality of stormwater runoff. Concrete demolition materials will be recycled into the finished site, minimizing disposal and hauling requirements. Primera’s civil design also meets all stormwater management permitting requirements of both the City of Chicago and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD).
