The Nest at NEIU, the University’s first residence hall, opened in the fall of 2016. The new student housing is located conveniently on the west side of the Main Campus, just south of the parking facility. This unique and innovative project, which consists of a 400-bed, six-story, 150,000 square foot building, is more than just a dormitory. It is a community meant to foster connection and healthy lifestyles for all if its student residents. A typical unit consists of furnished 4-bedrooms with a common living space, kitchen, and two baths. Each floor includes laundry and a lounge space, as well as a fitness room, gaming room, and study space. In addition, an administrative office is located on the ground floor. NEIU is a public state university serving 10,000 students in the region.
Primera partnered with Solomon, Cornwell, Buenz (SCB) to provide the design of the mechanical, electrical, lighting, plumbing, civil, and fire protection systems, all of which complied with the City of Chicago and State of Illinois building codes and standards.
