The Lake County Board adopted a strategy for a “Sustainable Lake County,” with the purpose to “make Lake County more sustainable and environmentally sensitive.” A key component of this strategy was the preparation of a set of development standards that would be used by the County to promote sustainable building design, site planning and construction.
Primera was selected to provide technical support and research to determine best sustainability practices relevant to the County in terms of technologies and applicable building and development codes. Primera developed appropriate ordinance language, and attended internal and public workshops to review and present the model ordinance. These new sustainable standards became supplements to the County’s Building Code and Unified Development Ordinance and help to ensure the realization of Lake County’s sustainability goals.
