Mike Belczak is Primera’s resident mechanical engineering expert who enjoys finding ways to squeeze energy out of buildings in every way possible. “Mechanical engineering is like a big puzzle,” he explains. “Existing buildings in particular. I enjoy the challenge of taking a building that was designed 100 years ago and looking for new and innovative ways to provide modern conveniences while being as energy efficient as possible.” His expertise is the product of nearly 25 years of experience, including mechanical engineering, design, project management, and construction administration of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for institutional, governmental, commercial, residential, and educational facilities. He has undertaken master planning of hospital and higher education campuses to determine and implement best practices for providing energy to a multiple building environment, and has integrated sustainable design practices into almost every project Primera undertakes. As Primera’s mechanical engineering director, Mike spearheads the mechanical group’s quality control and technology research efforts.
Mike studied general engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before joining an MEP consulting firm where he was responsible for the design of plumbing, fire protection and HVAC systems. He quickly realized he had a passion for mechanical engineering and energy efficiency. He joined Primera just two years later and has been committed to offering the best in client service ever since.
In addition to being a mechanical engineering expert, Mike is an avid cyclist and Chicago sports fan. He likes to bike as often as possible, including commuting to and from the office every day, all year long. An impressive feat given Chicago winters. A huge Bears fan, Mike and his family have been season ticket holders since he was just four years old.
